Volunteers from Scarborough Bluffs teamed up with DeSantos Martial Arts to prepare and serve a hearty community dinner at Evangel Mission Hall. Their generosity, teamwork, and genuine care helped create an evening filled with warmth, dignity, and connection for everyone who attended. It was a powerful reminder of what happens when neighbours come together to lift one another up.
On March 1st, volunteers from Scarborough Bluffs joined forces with DeSantos Martial Arts to prepare and serve dinner at Evangel Hall Mission, a long‑standing community hub in downtown Toronto dedicated to supporting adults facing poverty, hunger, and housing insecurity.
For more than a century, Evangel Hall Mission has been “a community of compassion and a place of hope” and offering daily drop‑in meals, access to showers and laundry, clothing supports, housing help, and one‑on‑one client services for adults 18 and older.
The hall also provides essential health services, including nursing clinics and dental care, along with weekly community meals and spiritual care programs that welcome everyone with dignity and warmth.

Against this backdrop of vital frontline support, our volunteers stepped into the bustling kitchen to help prepare a hearty, home‑style dinner for guests who rely on the hall’s services. Together with the DeSantos Martial Arts team, they chopped, stirred, plated, and served, creating not just a meal, but a moment of connection and comfort for community members who often face daily uncertainty.
Throughout the evening, the dining room filled with conversation, laughter, and the kind of neighbourly spirit that defines Scarborough Bluffs’ commitment to service. Our volunteers were inspired by the resilience of the guests and the dedication of the Evangel Hall Mission staff, who work tirelessly to ensure that everyone who walks through their doors feels seen, supported, and welcomed.
This collaboration was more than a volunteer shift, it was a reminder of what’s possible when communities come together with open hands and open hearts. Scarborough Bluffs is proud to stand alongside organizations like Evangel Hall Mission, helping strengthen the fabric of care that supports some of Toronto’s most vulnerable residents.
