The Scarborough Bluffs Rotary Club was proud to attend the Adhika 40th Anniversary Gala, a remarkable celebration of four decades of advocacy, cultural heritage, and community empowerment. The event brought together leaders and changemakers from across Canada and the Philippines to honour Adhika’s legacy of uplifting marginalized voices and fostering cross-cultural understanding.

🤝 Strengthening Global Connections
Earlier this year, in July, our club had the privilege of hosting members of the Adhika Foundation, who shared their inspiring work in the Philippines. The Adhika Foundation has been a powerful force for change, bridging communities in Canada and the Philippines through service, advocacy, and cultural pride. Here are five standout highlights of what they do:
🌱 Feeding Programs for Indigenous Youth
Adhika supports long-running feeding initiatives like the one at Bugatay Elementary School in the Philippines. Since 2007, they’ve provided hundreds of meals annually to students, including indigenous children, helping improve nutrition and school attendance. Remarkably, this program supported the first group of indigenous pupils to reach high school.
🎨 Cultural Education & Identity Building
In Canada, Adhika fosters pride in Filipino heritage through workshops, storytelling events, and community gatherings. These programs help second-generation youth connect with their roots and build a strong sense of identity, while also educating broader communities about Filipino culture.
🌀 Disaster Relief & Recovery
Adhika mobilizes quickly in times of crisis. After Typhoon Odette, they raised emergency funds and partnered with local organizations to support affected communities. Their efforts included trauma recovery programs for children and direct aid to families in need.
🧒 Nature Kids of Siargao
Adhika funds the Nature Kids Club in Siargao, a Saturday program for children aged 5–12 recovering from the trauma of Typhoon Odette. The club offers play-based learning, social activities, and emotional support. As of 2022, Adhika raised $5,000 to provide over 2,000 meals to these children.
🚶♀️ Annual Walk to Niagara Falls
In partnership with the DeSantos Foundation, Adhika co-hosts a four-day walk from Toronto to Niagara Falls. This event raises funds for youth empowerment, education access, and community development. It’s a beautiful example of physical movement driving social momentum.
These initiatives are vital in addressing systemic challenges such as poverty, limited access to education, and healthcare disparities. The Scarborough Bluffs Rotary Club was deeply moved by the Adhika board’s dedication and continues to support their mission to create lasting change.
💙 Supporting the Adhika Foundation
We are also proud supporters of the Adhika Foundation, whose work in community outreach aligns with Rotary’s core values. From promoting wellness and resilience to fostering civic engagement, the Anika Foundation is making a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals and families across the Philippines.
